The Rotary Club of Latrobe’s "Food for Thought" Backpack Program helps bridge the gap for students in the Greater Latrobe and Derry Area School Districts who may not have enough to eat over the weekend. While school programs cover weekday meals, many children face hunger on weekends, impacting their development and success. Since its launch in 2015, the program has grown from providing 35 backpacks to over 200 each week. Each backpack contains $12 worth of kid-friendly, single-serving meals, like Beef-a-Roni, mac and cheese, soups, and fruit cups. Funded through community donations, local businesses, and Rotary’s fundraising efforts, the program’s annual budget exceeds $80,000. Tax-deductible contributions can be made through the Latrobe Foundation to support this vital cause. We also couldn't do it without the amazing volunteers from local churches and organizations that help us take on this endeavor.
